Mission:

Maintain a clear line of communication and interaction between service agencies, community members and leaders on the Island of Hawaii.

Objectives/Goals
  • Reduction of non-emergency calls to 911 and 935-3311 by 3% in one year
  • Increase articles on safety issues with newspapers and newsletter on the Island of Hawaii by 3% in one year
  • Increase e-mail members by 50% in one year

Implementation / Strategies

  • Introduce Aloha United Way "2ll" to the Island of Hawaii
  • Introduce and develop an island-wide newsletter disseminating information on the top priority issues: 1) traffic 2) drugs 3) property crimes 4) manpower 5) animal control 6) communication
  • Introduce and create a website "Solutions 2002-3": Neighborhoods in Action
  • Introduce and develop an e-mail newsletter disseminating safety information, events, Neighborhood Watch meetings and videoconferences to the Island of Hawaii
  • Write safety issues articles for local newspapers
  • Monthly videoconferencing for community issues updates

Evaluation
  • Survey service agencies and community members before and after implementation of programs
  • Evaluate communication program at Solutions 2003: Neighborhoods In Action
