Police Chief James Correa addresses his vision of the Neighborhood Watch Program. How he sees it being implemented in the community. Explains the role of citizen involvement. Explains how citizens and government can work in partnership to increase neighborhood safety.

Deputy Managing Director Peter Young addresses his vision for the Neighborhood Watch Program. Explains how he sees it being implemented from the county government's perspective. Prosecuting Attorney Jay Kimura addresses the Community Empowerment Organization. Explains the functions. Defines how government and citizens are working with one another. Explains how representatives from the Neighborhood Watch Program can get involved in this project.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mitchell Roth addresses the Community Coalition for Neighborhood Safety. Explains the functions. Explains how government agencies and citizens are working with one another. Explains how representatives from the Neighborhood Watch Program can get involved in this coalition.

IDENTIFICATION OF PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUES

Facilitators: Community Policing Officers

Community members (attendees) working with a community policing officer identifying public safety issues and then prioritize them into 3-5 issues. Public safety issues defined as follows: Law Enforcement (traffic, noise, drug houses, etc.), Emergency Preparedness (disaster, civil defense, etc.), Fire Safety (EMS, response time, services, etc.).

ADDRESS PRIORITIZED ISSUES

Panelists: Assistant Chief Thomas Hickcox, Captain John Dawrs,
Sergeant Sam Kawamoto, Officer Stanley Haanio, Officer Vance Fujii

This session panelists address the prioritized issues and inform participants of what their role could be in resolving the issue(s) and what would be the role of the police in assisting to resolve the issue(s). Results tabulated to three - five issues to be addressed island-wide.

Who takes ownership? Should there be an island-wide Neighborhood Watch coalition? Schedule the next meeting to: strategize, formalize procedures, and establish timelines to reach solutions for the agreed upon top three - five issues.
